Manage BOM

Measure the impact analysis for SKUs and related BOM components

Create BOM | Link parts and specifications | Revise, share and enforce business rules with packaging BOM manager.

Managing the packaging bill of material offers greater control over the development and maintenance of packaging configurations. With CPG companies churning out product combinations at increasing frequency, there is a demand for greater flexibility and ease of putting together the packaging BOM.

Product extensions, market extensions and promotional offers can force new packaging configurations to be created and this leads to a proliferation of packaging BOMs. Keeping up with this pace does not fit into a rigid ERP system or as a free-for-all Excel spreadsheet. What’s required is just the right structure with the ease of managing it.

What can you do with Packaging BOM Manager?

Information related to each material line item is entered along with its associated data. BOM can be created from scratch or copied from existing BOM. The BOM hierarchy can be configured to any level and users can traverse up and down the hierarchy with ease. To facilitate BOM creation, one BOM can be included within another BOM.

A new version or revision of a BOM can be created whenever modifications are being made. Each BOM version has its own hierarchy and each sub-part in the hierarchy has their own versioning. The version history of the BOM and its parts show the audit log and when a part was superseded.

BOMs are approved using workflows. Any insertion, deletion or any changes made to a BOM, automatically changes the BOM status across the hierarchy. To approve the change, the workflow routes the BOM to multiple stakeholders for their review. Upon approval, the packaging configurations is given an ‘effective date’, which indicates when it becomes active or eligible for batch production.

All BOMs can be searched for a specified part using a “where used” inquiry, which is useful when making production decisions. A change in one part can affect multiple BOMs and the relationship between the parts allows the system to alert users of such changes.

Instructions define one or more required steps during packaging. Instructions can be selected from a user defined library and added to the BOM. Also, an adhoc or specific instruction can be added to the BOM.
